Rockwell Falls, After Heavy Rains

When my husband and I drove up to Lake Luzerne on Friday evening, we could see the Hudson River was running full from recent torrential rains.  After enjoying a very pleasant supper on the porch at Upriver Cafe, we walked down to the rocks above Rockwell Falls. Due to the rain-swollen river, the falls were almost obliterated by the roiling, thundering water as it plunged through the gorge and under a bridge, where a lone Great Blue Heron hunted the swirling backwash for its evening meal.

That's what I call the perfect dessert. Delicious with zero calories. Great end to a meal.

Beautiful! Although that fast, strong water makes me kind of nervous. Our boy is working on a drill rig on a barge in the middle of the Mohawk right by a dam. Gives me a lot of nightmares.

Beautiful- when the water rages it reminds us that nature is so powerful as well as lovely.

I do agree, Raining Iguanas! Rockwell Falls is one of the pleasures that draws us up to Lake Luzerne, although the food is also terrific at Upriver Cafe. And you can also get just a sandwich at dinnertime there, and don't have to splurge for a big meal while enjoying one of the most spectacularly scenic dining rooms anywhere.

No doubt about it, threecollie, that rivers can be fierce. Many young men (but never young women!) have died at this very spot because they thought they were just as tough as the river.

You said it, Sharkbytes. See my comment above. Or ask the folks who live along this river and whose homes have been smashed by its floods.
