Solving the Mystery of Orange Slime

Did I hear that right? The temperature should reach the mid-80s today? Sounds like a good day to head for the river with my canoe. Maybe I'll find some orange slimy stuff like what I found a year ago, covering this beaver-chewed stump.

I sent photos of this stuff to Dr. Kathie T. Hodge at Cornell University, who keeps a wonderful fungus-related blog, the Cornell Mushroom Blog. She guessed it was some kind of yeast, and just this week, presented an article on her blog about this orange yeasty slime. So check it out. You can learn lots of stuff about yeast and see my old photos, too.
