Love the swimmer, too!Momohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02022797571279621663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2662118368553266438.post-36110820292070565172020-07-14T15:32:28.622-04:002020-07-14T15:32:28.622-04:00Uta, thanks for stopping by! Although I'm sure you must miss the north, I bet Tennessee has equally wonderful natural sites.

Jeff, no Purple-fringed Orchids(Platanthers psycodes)this time. They might have been hiding or they might not yet be blooming at this site. I did find some just yesterday partially in bloom along the Hudson at Moreau.

Sue, we sure ARE lucky to have this and other marvelous places to botanize, and close to home! And yes, as fascinating to visit in winter as well as in all other seasons. I'm glad I wasn't present, though, when 12 feet of frazil ice pushed across the road for several miles of its length. Or when the spring floods gouged out half of the road!

threecollie, those blueberries were incredible! Juicy and sweet and tumbling right into our hands. But I've never had to stoop to pick highbush blueberries before!

Woody Meristem, I thank my lucky stars almost every time I go out to botanize around here. Where I grew up in southwestern Michigan, all lakes were roiled by powerboats and most rural land was either farmed or logged. But here in northeastern NY, vast tracts of unspoiled real wilderness lie waiting for me to explore, just minutes from home. I don't have to die to go to heaven!

Furry, I bet the geology here is similar to that on the Bruce. Except that limestone and marble are really unusual amid the granitic gneiss that makes up most of the Adirondacks. Thankfully, mineral springs bring lime to the surface, and calcareous outcroppings exist, as do acidic bogs and fens.Jacqueline Donnellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13390548854179921303noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2662118368553266438.post-3674150561771383452020-07-13T19:51:36.381-04:002020-07-13T19:51:36.381-04:00In some respects it reminds me of some west shore ...In some respects it reminds me of some west shore habitats up the Bruce Peninsula, both species and the acidic/neutral mix of habitats. The Furry Gnomehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02485265576983125216noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2662118368553266438.post-50142925509462838212020-07-12T13:50:51.843-04:002020-07-12T13:50:51.843-04:00What a fascinating place with an abundance of bota...What a fascinating place with an abundance of botanical treasures, you're fortunate to live within easy driving distance.Woody Meristemhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17042498252608254901noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2662118368553266438.post-3221781144638822342020-07-11T14:31:09.845-04:002020-07-11T14:31:09.845-04:00What a wonderfully productive and interesting day!...What a wonderfully productive and interesting day!
