I'm a bit obsessed with Leopold's Draba essay myself. When I looked at Wisconsin plant distributions I figured that he was writing either about D. verna or D. reptans. The habitat around the Shack made me think that D. reptans might be the likely focus of the essay. I sent a note to the folks at the Leopold Foundation asking if they knew which one it might be. They wrote back that the essay was inspired by D. reptans. And then there is the issue that the plant has been reassigned to a different genus: Tomostima. There is a small population of reptans in New York: https://guides.nynhp.org/carolina-whitlow-grass/ I wrote up a piece on this obsession with Draba which you can find here, if interested: https://www.bradwilliamson.net/a-life-long-quest/Brad Williamsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16160465402058215000noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2662118368553266438.post-57539099867577225752020-03-28T22:00:50.116-04:002020-03-28T22:00:50.116-04:00My freshman botany professor introduced me to Leop...My freshman botany professor introduced me to Leopold and he, in turn, introduced me to Draba. I first encountered it in the college bookstore in paperback. I bought a copy, read it, and it truly changed my life. threecolliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05811004278088768813noreply@blogger.com
