Good work on identifying the American elm, a species that has gone the way of the American chestnut -- scattered relics. The forest-grown elms usually lack the graceful vase-shaped form of those increasingly-rare old survivors grown in the open. Sixty years ago, you would be much more likely to find poison ivy vines on an elm tree than an ash.
